چکیده

We examined production of ADP-ribosyltransferase C3 in 11 strains of Clostridium botldinum type C and D and their nontoxigenic derivatives. Antisera to C3 proteins of type C organisms divided C3 proteins roughly into at least two groups, bearing no relation to their bacterial types. The C3 gene of type D strain South African was isolated from a toxigenic phage library, and the complete sequence of the C3 gene was determined. The C3 protein of type D strain South African had 98% homology to the C3 protein of type C strain 003-9 and 66% homology to that of type D strain 1873. These results indicate that there are two types of C3 protein in type D organisms, as there are in type C organisms.

Antagonistic effect on Clostridium botulinum type E by organisms resembling it.

A bacteriocin-like substance, active against strains of Clostridium botulinum type E, is produced by certain nontoxic organisms whose biochemical properties and morphological characteristics are similar to type E. The substance, for which the name "boticin E" is proposed, is bacteriolytic for vegetative cells and bacteriostatic for spores of type E. Its spectrum of activity is somewhat strain-s...

Double Sandwich ELISA Modified Method for the Detection of Clostridium Botulinum Type E

Background & Objective: A very small amount of botulinum toxin can cause death and on the other hand, there is no cure for its poison other than antitoxin. Therefore, a diagnostic method that can detect very small amounts of botulinum toxin in a short time is very important. In this study, rapid and accurate detection of botulinum toxin type E has been performed with the double sandwich ELISA m...

Isolation of Clostridium botulinum type G from Swiss soil specimens by using sequential steps in an identification scheme.

After Clostridium botulinum type G organisms and toxin were identified in necropsy specimens in cases of unexplained death in adults and infants (O. Sonnabend, W. Sonnabend, R. Heinzle, T. Sigrist, R Dirnhofer, and U. Krech, J. Infect. Dis. 143:22-27, 1981), extensive research to detect C. botulinum type G in soil samples from Switzerland was done. A total of 41 specimens from virgin soil and f...

Emergence of Clostridium botulinum type B-like nontoxigenic organisms in a patient with type B infant botulism.

We encountered a patient with infant botulism caused by a single clone of Clostridium botulinum type B. In the early convalescent phase, a C. botulinum type B-like nontoxigenic organism emerged in the feces instead. Growth inhibition of toxigenic strains by nontoxigenic strains was examined.
